Managed Services trade some control and per-unit cost for dramatically reduced operational burden. AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, and Azure SQL are managed databases. AWS Lambda, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Run are managed compute. Trade-offs: less flexibility (you can't always tune every knob), vendor lock-in (migration to another provider is harder), but no on-call shifts for routine ops. Default choice for everything that doesn't need bare-metal customization.

Managed services are how small teams ship reliable infrastructure at scale — buying time-back on undifferentiated heavy lifting is almost always worth the markup.
