Pydantic Settings (formerly pydantic.BaseSettings) reads configuration from environment variables and validates it as a typed Pydantic model. Override sources in priority order: CLI args → environment → .env file → Vault/secrets → defaults. Type errors at config load time prevent the classic 'service starts fine but explodes on first request' problem caused by mistyped env vars.
Loading DATABASE_URL, API_KEY, and DEBUG flags into a typed Settings model — invalid env at startup fails fast with a clear error instead of mysterious runtime crashes.
